30 Hour Famine

This weekend I participated in a 30 Hour Famine with some of my awesome Youth Group!! On Friday we headed to another church to begin. The kids were broken into "tribes" and a few even had "disabilities" (malaria, splinted leg, mute, etc.). They had to "cross borders" and compete in different challenges for points. We took intermittent juice breaks throughout the evening.

When it was time for bed, it took two people to put my cot together; needless to say, I'm taking it back. It also creeeeeeked all night. Ugh! I had very little sleep. Also, it was sooooo cold!! Oh. Em. Gee. I did the ramp by myself quite a few times, though!!!

Today we woke up and did some mission work. Then, we collected money for the famine. $1 can feed a child for a day. I got on and off the 15-passenger van fairly well (once I had the set up of being by a curb right); I even did it once by myself on level ground! We had a blast!! It was very cold this morning and the wind wasn't helping... We couldn't finish our mission project because the caulk wouldn't stick to the windows. We did what we could. Unfortunately, I was hungry all day. And I'd had very little sleep. That makes me a little grumpy. I served communion at the closing worship, and we had to leave before we really "broke" the fast. I was planning on going to two of my other Youth's recital tonight, but I was crabby and needed to eat. I feel awful, but I think it was the right choice.

We ate at Chili's for dinner and now I'm stuffed and heading to bed!

And that's life...

  1. Sounds like a very successful 30-Hour Famine! Creaky cot and way-too-cold-for-words, aside. :-)
